Summer Classic 2012 – June 9th at Gracie Barra Seattle

Youth Grappling League is back for the 2nd annual Summer Classic.  This years Summer Classic tournament will be Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (Gi) ONLY.

Weigh ins begin at 11:00am

Matches begin at NOON

Registration closes June  2 at 11:59pm.  NO late registration will be accepted.

Event will cost $40 for competitors.  $5 for Spectators.

Tournament open to grapplers ages 4-17 years.

Competitors will receive a minimum of two matches.  Medals will be awarded to the top 3 competitors in each division.  Division champions will receive a prize bag as well.  Overall Tournament Team winner (determined by highest overall team points) will receive a trophy for their Team.

Team point system

1st

Novice / White = 9
Beginner / White Yellow = 10
Intermediate / Yellow = 11
Advanced / Orange = 12
Elite / Green – Blue = 13
2nd all divisions = 4
3rd all divisions = 1

We will NOT be specifying weight classes for this event.  Competitors will be placed in divisions with other athletes over similar size and skill level.  Please register your athlete for their actual weight.  Please do not have youth competitors cut weight to achieve a lower weight class!!  If your athlete weighs in over the division limit or their registered weight (which ever is higher) they WILL BE disqualified.  Athletes will NOT be re-bracketed on the day of the event.  You can change your competitors weight up until registration closes on June 2.

 In future events, we will begin using set weight classes in order to develop a ranking system for Youth Grappling League overall champions and athlete rank.  Future events will also require YGL membership cards.  Membership will give athletes, coaches and spectators access to YGL ranking system and premium website features, discounted event pricing and many other additional privileges.  This event will NOT require YGL membership.   You will be able to purchase YGL membership cards at the event for a discounted price.  Stay tuned for more information regarding YGL membership!!!!

This event will feature point only matches for the younger competitors.  This is an effort to create a safe and fun environment for younger and/or less experienced competitors to be able to get tournament experience and ensure the fundamental positional strategies are mastered before introducing submissions.  Please review the rules section to verify what division you would like your competitor in.
