Youth Grappling League is back for the 2nd annual Summer Classic.  This years Summer Classic tournament will be Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (Gi) ONLY.

Weigh ins begin at 11:00am

Matches begin at NOON

Registration closes June  2 at 11:59pm.  NO late registration will be accepted.

Event will cost $40 for competitors.  $5 for Spectators.

Tournament open to grapplers ages 4-17 years.

Competitors will receive a minimum of two matches.  Medals will be awarded to the top 3 competitors in each division.  Division champions will receive a prize bag as well.  Overall Tournament Team winner (determined by highest overall team points) will receive a trophy for their Team.

Novice / White = 9
Beginner / White Yellow = 10
Intermediate / Yellow = 11
Advanced / Orange = 12
Elite / Green – Blue = 13
2nd all divisions = 4
3rd all divisions = 1

We will NOT be specifying weight classes for this event.  Competitors will be placed in divisions with other athletes over similar size and skill level.  Please register your athlete for their actual weight.  Please do not have youth competitors cut weight to achieve a lower weight class!!  If your athlete weighs in over the division limit or their registered weight (which ever is higher) they WILL BE disqualified.  Athletes will NOT be re-bracketed on the day of the event.  You can change your competitors weight up until registration closes on June 2.

 In future events, we will begin using set weight classes in order to develop a ranking system for Youth Grappling League overall champions and athlete rank.  Future events will also require YGL membership cards.  Membership will give athletes, coaches and spectators access to YGL ranking system and premium website features, discounted event pricing and many other additional privileges.  This event will NOT require YGL membership.   You will be able to purchase YGL membership cards at the event for a discounted price.  Stay tuned for more information regarding YGL membership!!!!

This event will feature point only matches for the younger competitors.  This is an effort to create a safe and fun environment for younger and/or less experienced competitors to be able to get tournament experience and ensure the fundamental positional strategies are mastered before introducing submissions.  Please review the rules section to verify what division you would like your competitor in. Registration for Youth Grappling League 2011 Summer Classic closed with over 90 individual competitors, many doing both gi and no gi divisions. If you or anyone you know is interested in applying for a Fighter For Kids Scholarship to the 2011 Summer Classic please conact Cindy for application information.  Applications must be in by June 15th.

2011 Summer Classic, Youth Grappling League’s inaugural event, will be held June 25th in Bellevue, WA at Ring Sports United.  The event will include Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Submission Grappling and is open to competitors 17 and under.

All finals matches will be held at the end of the division, in a ring, where all eyes are focussed on the finals action.  1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners will receive medals.  All competitors will receive at least 2 matches per division.

Click here for event rules and allowed submissions.  Competitors will be bracketed based on experience level, age and weight.  We will not be using predefined weight divisions for this event.  Please DO NOT have your child cut weight for this event.  Brackets will be arranged in a fair manner to create competitive match ups based on the athletes who enter.   There will also be Novice/White Belt (Points only) brackets for competitors under 9 years of age.  Grapplers under 9 who wish to compete in brackets that allow submissions can still enter the White/Yellow belt (BJJ) / Beginner (No gi) bracket.  We hopes the Points only brackets will create an arena for the youngest athletes to compete in a safe and fun environment that focusses on position over submission.

Registration for the event will cost $25 for one division and $30 for both divisions.  Registration deadline will be June 20 11:59pm.
